How many items in our houses or sheds do we only use once a year? How often do we invest in equipment for a new hobby and then realise it’s not our thing? How many well-working appliances do we throw away because of lack of space?
The Essex Library of Things is a pilot project that wants to change this trend by giving residents the opportunity to borrow items from their local library. These include DIY or gardening tools, outdoor equipment, home appliances or garden games.
We are encouraging our residents to borrow instead of buy new. The service also promotes using products until the end of their life. This means fewer items need to be produced and everyone has the chance to try out new products.
