Solution: Circular furniture. Owner: Ikea. Strategy: Reuse.
Ikea’s Circular Hub sells used, discontinued and ex-display furniture. Items are obtained via a buy-back service, offering up to £250 per piece. Buy-back prices are:
- 50% of the original price for good-as-new items.
- 40% for items with minor scratches.
- 30% for well-used items.
Furniture is resold in-store and online.
United Kingdom and overseas.
IKEA has recovered 47 million pieces of furniture since 2019.
Potential circular economy impact
Owners can get value out of their old furniture and make it available to others. The hub also expands the market for second-hand furniture and reduces furniture waste in landfill or incineration.
